ABU partners with APC in drive to boost Paralympic coverage

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) to strengthen broadcast coverage and awareness of Paralympic events and sports in Asia.

The partnership includes broadcasting arrangements for Paralympic events such as the 2014 Incheon Para Games and other major championships held under the jurisdiction of the APC.

The first venture from the collaboration will concern the 2013 Asian Youth Para Games, which is to be held in Kuala Lumpur from October 26-30.

The ABU will be the Games’ broadcast partner and will produce live feeds, highlights and news packages, as well as assist with distribution of Games coverage to its members through Asiavision – a daily news exchange operated by the union since 1984.

APC president Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin said: “The signing of this MoU marks a new milestone in the Paralympic movement in Asia. Although the idea to promote and enhance the value of para sports and the Paralympic movement in the region through a partnership between ABU and APC is something that has been on our minds for some years, it is only now that the idea has come to fruition.”

The ABU has 255 members spread across 63 countries.
