AFL secures Chinese exposure

The AFL Aussie rules league has secured three separate free-to-air rights deals in China.

All three deals cover the May 19 match in Shanghai between Gold Coast and Port Adelaide, which will be shown live on Guangzhou TV, Shanghai TV and Shandong TV.

The Guangzhou TV agreement also includes one AFL match per round through to the end of the 2018 season, with Port Adelaide featuring in 11 of the 23 broadcasts. The deal also includes the finals series and Grand Final.

Additionally, Guangzhou TV will show a weekly highlights and preview show in Mandarin.

Last year’s AFL match in China – the first regular-season contest from a major foreign sports league to take place in the country – was broadcast by state-owned CCTV, as well as Shanghai Media Group and Guangzhou TV.
