APC aims to build Asian Paralympic coverage through ABU tie-up

The Asian Paralympic Committee has struck a deal with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union to help enhance the television coverage of Asian Paralympic events.

The Asian Paralympic Committee has struck a partnership with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, which represents the region’s free-to-air broadcasters, as it bids to enhance television coverage for major Paralympic events in Asia.

Through collaboration with the ABU, the APC hopes to attract more public-service broadcasters and free-to-air networks to become involved in Paralympic activities and sporting events in the region.

APC president and International Paralympic Committee governing board member, Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin, said: “Last year’s London Paralympic Games has proven that para-events are not to be left out…receiving great TV coverage and airtime and recording a huge global audience. We believe that the same scenario can happen here in this region with the collaboration with ABU and Asian broadcasters.”

The Asian Para-Games are held every four years, back-to-back with the Asian Games. Guangzhou, China, hosted the first Asian Para Games in 2010 while Incheon, Korea will host the next edition in 2014.

Apart from the Asian Para Games, the APC’s other major events include the Asia Open Winter Games and the Asian Youth Para-Games
