Argentinian government pumps additional funds into football scheme

The Argentinian government has set aside a further ARS310.6m (€39.2m/$53.3m) in its 2013 budget for its ‘Football for All’ broadcast project for the domestic football league, according to the Clarín newspaper.

The additional funding will be added to the ARS1.2bn that has already been budgeted for the 2013-14 season.

The government launched its ‘fútbol para todos’ (‘football for everyone’) scheme in 2009.

It acquired the media rights for the domestic league until 2018-19 and put the matches on free-to-air television.

The scheme was credited with helping President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner get re-elected in 2011 by the widest margin since the country's return to democracy in 1983.
