Bayern confirms channel launch

German Bundesliga football club Bayern Munich has confirmed it will launch its own linear television channel, FC Bayern.tv, on February 27.

Bayern will collaborate with telco Deutsche Telekom on the 24-hour channel, which will broadcast reports, talk shows, exclusive interviews and live content.

The channel will be accessible in HD via Deutsche Telekom’s EntertainTV service, and through Bayern’s official club website and smartphone apps.

FC Bayern.tv will be available for €5.95 ($6.30) per month, with the first 12 months free for Deutsche Telekom customers. The channel will be free for all fans during the first week, from February 27 to March 5.

Bayern will become the first German club to launch its own linear television channel. Bayern’s director of media and communication, Stefan Mennerich, said: “FC Bayern.tv live is another, crucial element in our media mix. We'll offer Bayern fans background reports, talkshow formats, exclusive interviews and most notably live content. Carlo Ancelotti's team will be at the centre of attention, but we'll also report on the FC Bayern basketballers, our footballing women, the Bayern reserves, the youth teams and other sections.”
