BBC Northern Ireland in saddle for Belfast’s Giro opener

The BBC Northern Ireland division of UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has acquired rights for the 2014 Giro d’Italia cycling race.

BBC Northern Ireland director Peter Johnston said that the broadcaster had secured the rights “with the help of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board” and would show live coverage of the three days of action in Northern Ireland on the BBC Two NI channel.

The event, which begins in Belfast this Friday, will run through Northern Ireland for three days before leaving to continue on its journey through Italy.

The BBC Sport NI website will show daily highlights of the remaining stages in Italy.
