BBC snaps up Tri Nations rights

UK public-service broadcaster the BBC agreed a deal with the Rugby Football League, rugby league’s governing body in England, for the 2012 Tri Nations tournament between England, France and Wales.

BBC acquired the rights after pay-television broadcaster BSkyB declined the opportunity to buy them. Sky has previously broadcast Tri Nations and Four Nations competitions in Saturday evening slots, and the Press Association Sport agency reports the BBC intends to televise the games on Saturday afternoons.

The 2012 competition kicks off on October 20 when France host Wales, with the final being played on November 11.
