Bidders revealed for Sri Lanka Cricket rights

Nimbus Communications and Neo Prime, a pay-television channel operated by the agency’s Neo Sports Broadcast division, have lodged separate bids for the worldwide rights to Sri Lanka national cricket team home matches, according to the Indian Television news website.

Indian subcontinent pay-television broadcaster Taj TV and the Total Sports Asia agency also submitted bids to the Sri Lanka Cricket national governing body by the March 16 deadline, the report added.

The rights cover seven years, from 2013-14 to 2019-20.

The bids have been submitted to the governing body’s technical evaluation committee for the evaluation process, and the rights, which cover television, internet and mobile platforms, are expected to be awarded within the next week.

In February, the country’s sports minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, turned down a request from the governing body to extend a worldwide rights deal with Taj TV-owned pay-television broadcaster Ten Sports without carrying out a tender process.
