Bildplus picks up rights in Germany to WBSS showdown

Bildplus, the subscription service of German newspaper Bild, has acquired rights to the cruiserweight finale of the second season of the World Boxing Super Series.

In Germany, Bildplus will exclusively stream the Mairis Briedis vs Yuniel Dorticos  contest for the Ali Trophy, which takes place in Munich on Saturday.

The final will be held in a film studio under Covid-19 rules and with no spectators at Plazamedia Broadcasting Center, the facility owned by German sports production firm Plazamedia.

German rising stars Leon Bunn, Denis Radovan, and Sophie Alisch will also feature on the undercard of Briedis-Dorticos.

Saturday’s event is the fifth final in the history of the WBSS and the first to take place in Germany.

The WBSS announced last week that pay-television broadcaster Sky would cover Briedis-Dorticos live in the UK. Sky has covered WBSS events in the past including last year’s Season II finals – Naoya Inoue vs Nonito Donaire and Regis Prograis vs Josh Taylor.

International sports streaming service DAZN will also offer Briedis-Dorticos live in the US and Canada.

Last year, WBSS promoter Comosa appointed the Protocol Sports Marketing agency to market global media-rights to the series. In 2017, German commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 acquired rights to show the the 2017-18 edition of the World Boxing Super Series, while UK commercial broadcaster ITV also secured the rights as the series launched.
