Broadcast sales boost Bundesliga clubs’ revenue

Broadcast income represented 26.8 per cent of the record €1.942 billion ($2.466 billion) collective revenue for German Bundesliga clubs in the 2010-11 season.

The league’s 2012 Bundesliga Report said broadcast revenue was €519.6 million – the second-largest source of income for the 18 top-flight clubs after sponsorship and advertising, which generated €522.7 million.

League chief executive Christian Seifert said surpassing the €2 billion mark in collective revenue was a “realistic target” over the next two years. The league recently began the sales process for its domestic media rights in the 2013-14 to 2016-17 period. The sale is expected to be completed by May.

The Bundesliga generated record revenue for a seventh year in a row. Total revenue rose 9.7 per cent between 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The league had a collective profit of €52.5 million after tax last season, compared to a loss of €78 million in 2009-10. The clubs reduced their liabilities from €644 million to €594 million year-on-year.
