BT Sport adds to hockey portfolio

UK pay-television broadcaster BT Sport has acquired rights to the final round of fixtures of England Hockey’s Super 6s domestic competition.

The men’s and women’s semi-finals and finals take place on Sunday at the SSE Arena in London and all games will be shown live on BT Sport.

The announcement continues BT Sport's drive to increase the profile of hockey in the country. The broadcaster last year aired the men’s and women’s World League finals national team events, which took place in India and Argentina, respectively.

Jonathan Cockcroft, commercial director at England Hockey, the sport’s governing body in the country, said: “Television coverage of our game is critical for the growth of the sport and we hope that those who watch the fantastic coverage will be inspired to pick up a stick or come to a future England Hockey event.”

The final four teams in the men’s Super 6s are Reading, Sevenoaks, Canterbury and East Grinstead. The latter two sides also made it to the final four of the women’s championship, along with Bowdon Hightown and University of Birmingham. The competing club teams feature international stars such as Laura Unsworth (pictured) and Simon Mantell.
