Bulgaria’s bTV secures Spanish Supercopa rights

Bulgarian pay-television broadcaster bTV has picked up rights in the country to the Spanish Supercopa club football competition this year.

The deal was agreed with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which tendered out international rights to the competition, for the 2019-20 to 2021-22 seasons, on November 12 last year.

The Supercopa is now a ‘Final Four’ format, which includes three matches instead of the traditional meeting of the reigning LaLiga and Copa del Rey champions on the eve of the domestic season. The competition will be held in Saudi Arabia, following a deal between the RFEF and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation last year.

This year’s competition features Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Valencia. BTV will showcase the rights on the bTV Action channel.

In taking the Supercopa to market internationally, the RFEF offered the rights in Bulgaria as one of 31 country-specific packages in Europe.

LaLiga rights in Bulgaria are currently held by Telekom Austria subsidiary A1 Bulgaria and telco Bulsatcom.

The RFEF earlier this week secured a deal for Supercopa rights in Norway with US media group Discovery, which owns sports broadcaster Eurosport.
