Canal Plus Cyfrowy snaps up Ligue 1 rights

Polish pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus Cyfrowy has acquired rights for Ligue 1, the top division of French football, in a three-year deal, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.

Under the agreement with the MP & Silva agency, Canal Plus will also be able to show selected games from the French second division, Ligue 2, and the Coupe de France knockout tournament, as well as a regular magazine programme.

The broadcaster has decided against renewing its deal with MP & Silva for rights for Serie A, the top flight of Italian football, according to the Broadband TV News website.

The broadcaster cited disappointing viewing figures and the price of the rights for its decision not to renew its Serie A coverage.
