Canal Plus pounces for Formula E rights

French pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus has acquired rights for the Formula E Championship, the new electric car-racing series operated by the FIA, motorsport’s global governing body.

The exclusive rights will cover France, Andorra and Monaco and will run for three years, from 2014-15 to 2016-17.

Canal Plus will show live coverage of all races after striking a deal with the MP & Silva agency. The broadcaster will also show highlights, driver interviews and pre-race build-ups as well as podium celebrations.

MP & Silva said that more rights deals will be announced for the series before the opening race of the campaign on September 13.
