Canal Plus swoops for Euroleague rights in Spain

Spanish pay-television operator Canal Plus has agreed a three-year deal with Euroleague Basketball for the exclusive rights to the European club competition.

The agreement will commence with the 2013-14 season and runs through 2015-16.

Under the terms of the deal, Canal Plus will this season broadcast live and exclusively in Spain the games featuring domestic teams Real Madrid, Unicaja Malaga, FC Barcelona and Laboral Kutxa Vitoria.

Canal Plus Deportes will broadcast regular season games, along with the Top 16, the playoffs and the Final Four, which this season will take place from May 16-18 in Milan, Italy.

Customers will also be able to access games via various mobile devices through Yomvi, the broadcaster’s online service.

The news comes after Canal Plus in July agreed a multi-year extension to its media rights deal with US league the NBA to continue broadcasting the competition in Spain.
