CBA strikes series of rights deals

The Chinese Basketball Association has awarded media rights to state broadcaster CCTV, online streaming platforms Tencent and Zhibo and video-sharing website Bilibili.

CCTV has secured rights to show live coverage of games on its CCTV-5 sports channel and its digital application under a 10-year deal, from 2017-18 to 2026-27.

CCTV-5 will show two games per round on its television channel and a further two games on its app.

CCTV-5’s account on social media platform Weibo will also show clips of action from the league.

Tencent and Zhibo have sealed three-year deals covering rights to all games on a non-exclusive basis. The Tencent agreement was reported by TV Sports Markets on September 29.

Zhibo will provide coverage on its website, application and OTT services.

Bilibili, which also serves as the title sponsor of the Shanghai Sharks CBA club, will also be able to show coverage of the league, according to the Yutang Sports news website.

The CBA secured the agreements directly with the media companies after it opted against renewing a partnership with the Infront Sports & Media agency.
