Chinese state broadcaster CCTV launched a second dedicated sports channel on Sunday, according to the Xinhua news agency.
CCTV 5+ will broadcast on a 24-hour basis in high-definition and is designed to complement the existing CCTV 5 channel.
Upcoming events featured on the new channel will include tennis grand slam the US Open from August 26 to September 9 and China’s 12th National Games, which will be held in Liaoning from August 31 to September 12.
Jiang Heping, head of CCTV 5+, said: “The move meets the changing demands of the audience and provides a new platform for the development of the sports industry.”
