Chilean FA seeks outright ownership of football channel

The Chilean Football Association (ANFP) is seeking to secure outright ownership of Canal del Fútbol, the broadcaster which holds exclusive rights to domestic football in the country, according to multiple Chilean media reports.

The Bio Bio Chile website said the ANFP’s Comisión CDF division will propose at a board meeting next month that the association acquire the 20 per cent stake in Canal del Fútbol currently held by Jorge Claro.

The ANFP currently has an 80 per cent interest in Canal del Fútbol, with Claro, who manages the operation, holding the remaining stake.

Bio Bio said the 20 per cent stake would be worth $180m (€167.3m), which would be paid for through a loan running across 10 to 15 years. The ANFP would create a body dedicated to the administration of the channel, should the proposal prove successful.

Comisión CDF’s membership includes leading Chilean clubs such as Audax Italiano, Ñublense, Everton and O'Higgins.
