Chilevisión returns as rights-holder for World Cup qualifiers

Free-to-air broadcaster Chilevisión has acquired commercial and broadcast rights to the Chilean national football team’s qualifying campaign for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Under the deal with the Chilean Football Association (ANFP), Chilevisión saw off competition from incumbent rights-holder, general entertainment channel Mega, and commercial broadcaster Canal 13 for the contract.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but ANFP president Arturo Salah said Chilevisión has paid higher than the previous deal, according to Chilean sports magazine El Gráfico.

In December 2012, Mega was said to have paid $106m (€91m) to acquire domestic and international rights for Chile national team football games, including qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup and friendly fixtures.

Mega had replaced Chilevisión as the rights-holder of national team games.
