Chinese businessman planning new eSports platform – report

The son of Wang Jianlin, chairman of Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda, plans to establish a new streaming platform dedicated to eSports, according to the South China Morning Post.

The newspaper said Wang Sicong wrote on microblogging service Weibo that he will be chief executive of Panda TV, an online entertainment company focused on broadcasting live e-sports events.

Wang Sicong serves as chairman of private investment firm Prometheus Capital and is an outspoken and popular social media celebrity in China. His father has an estimated worth of around $13bn (€11.7bn), making him China’s richest man.

In 2011, Wang Sicong acquired the pro-gaming team formerly known as Catastrophic Cruel Memory, now Invictus Gaming, for around $6m in order to promote eSports in China.

A number of top members of professional eSports teams, both in China and overseas, have reportedly committed to back Panda TV as anchors and hosts.
