Cosafa Cup rights to be distributed outside sub-Saharan Africa

The 3Vision Distribution agency has secured a deal to distribute rights for the 2014 Cosafa Cup, which features national football teams from sub-Saharan Africa.

The deal marks the first time that an agency will aim to distribute rights for the tournament outside sub-Saharan Africa.

The coverage will be produced in high definition by pay-television broadcaster SuperSport or South African public-service broadcaster SABC, according to the agency.

“This prestigious football tournament is now in its 15th year but this is the first time it has looked to build an audience outside sub-Saharan Africa,” 3Vision Distribution’s international sales and marketing director, Mike McKibbin, said.

The two-week tournament will kick off on September 13 in Gaborone, Botswana.

3Vision Distribution has worked in the past with Spanish Liga club Real Madrid to assist in selling pre-season matches to an international audience.
