A new pay-television channel exclusively dedicated to football is scheduled to launch in Costa Rica next month.
FUTV will launch on February 29 and will hold exclusive rights to selected home matches played by Costa Rican teams.
Costa Rican newspaper La Republica also reported that FUTV will hold exclusive rights to matches played by club sides Saprissa, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Herediano, Cartaginés, Grecia, Pérez Zeledón and Limón.
FUTV will be made available on the Cabletica, Telecable and Kölbi platforms.
The Tigo network is also interested in carrying the channel. Tigo’s director of residential services Leandro Lagos said that it has received approaches to incorporate FUTV into its offering and is awaiting a commercial proposal from the channel.
On its own coverage of the Costa Rican Primera División, Tigo Sports said that it “continues with its broadcasts, as it has been doing for more than a year, with multiple sports disciplines for our clients, and where Primera División football has a fundamental role week by week in our programming”.
The broadcaster continued: “From Tigo’s perspective, we see this situation as part of the natural evolution of the market and it validates the business model that Tigo Sports has led in the country.”
