Danish women’s football league boosts exposure in new domestic deals

The Danish Elitedivisionen, the top-tier women’s football league in the country, has sealed new domestic rights agreements with media group Discovery and sports broadcaster Sport Live.

The new deals, agreed by the Danish Football Union, are for rights to the remaining five match-weeks of the 2020 season. The league season will restart on June 6 following from suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Matches will be available on Discovery’s linear Eurosport 2 channel and its OTT service Dplay, as well as being available on the Sport Live channel. Both broadcasters will also produce a weekly highlights programme.

Sport Live already had a deal in place with the DBU for the 2020 season that gave it the right to broadcast one match from the Elitedivisionen per match week.

Sport Live was launched last year, and broadcasts sports such as basketball, canoeing, horse racing and table tennis, along with action from 2. Division, the third-tier football league in Denmark.

It has distribution agreements with operators such as YouSee, and Canal Digital.
