DAZN picks up Fifa Club World Cup rights in Germany

Streaming service DAZN has acquired rights in Germany to the 2019 Fifa Club World Cup.

The deal was negotiated by the Dentsu agency, Fifa’s sales agent for the competition.

Rights are exclusive in Germany, however it is not yet known whether DAZN has also picked up non-exclusive rights in Austria and Switzerland as it did for the 2018 tournament, when it held rights across the three countries.

Its coverage will begin on December 17, in the first semi-final between Brazilian club Flamengo and the winners of Saudi club Al Hilal and Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis. There is interest in the competition as German manager Jürgen Klopp is leading his Liverpool side in the tournament.

Dentsu has sealed several new agreements this month for the 2019 tournament, which is being held in Qatar. These include deals in the Middle East and North Africa (beIN Sports), Australia (Optus), Turkey (Saran) and the UK (BBC).
