DAZN picks up Mayweather-McGregor rights in Japan

OTT sports subscription service DAZN has secured rights in Japan to the crossover fight between undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor.

It was announced yesterday (Wednesday) that DAZN had landed exclusive rights to the event in Germany and Austria, but it has now added Japan to the contract.

Japanese subscribers will be able to watch the fight as part of their monthly subscription. In addition to the exclusive coverage, DAZN will showcase all the action in the run up to the event on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas including the press conferences between the two fighters and exclusive programming behind the scenes, plus archive of previous fights.

The 40-year-old Mayweather Jr., who retired from boxing two years ago with an undefeated 49-0 record, will face the 29-year-old McGregor, lightweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and one of the most marketable athletes in sport.
