Deutsche Telekom strikes BBL clips deal with Axel Springer

Publishing group Axel Springer has agreed a sublicensing deal with telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom for rights to the Basketball Bundesliga, the top division of the sport in Germany.

The agreement, which is effective for the ongoing 2014-15 season, will allow the Bild.de and SportBild.de websites, along with their associated mobile portals and apps, to provide clips of Bundesliga games of up to a 90-second duration.

The deal will also allow for one match per day to be covered through a five-minute package. The clips will be available from 8am on the day after a game.

In June, Deutsche Telekom agreed a four-year deal for the media rights to the Bundesliga. The agreement, which includes both national and international rights, commenced from the 2014-15 season and runs through to the 2017-18 campaign.
