Discovery chief Perrette to outline sports strategy to TV Sports Markets at Sportel

JB Perrette, the president of Discovery Networks International, will discuss the challenges and opportunities for Discovery in the sports broadcasting market in a special one-to-one interview with Frank Dunne, editor of TV Sports Markets, at the Sportel trade fair in Monaco in October.

Discovery Communications has long been known as one of the world’s biggest distributors of channels. Its flagship Discovery Channel is just one of 47 channel brands distributed in over 220 countries around the world.

In the last two years, the company has also become a major player in the sports broadcasting business. Among other things, it acquired the SBS Nordics operation and took a controlling stake in pan-regional sports broadcaster Eurosport.

Perrette was appointed president of Discovery’s international division in October 2011, where he oversees strategic development and daily operations. Prior to joining Discovery, he spent 11 years at NBCUniversal.

“JB is one of the real heavyweights of the broadcasting industry and to have the opportunity to talk to him in depth about Discovery’s plans in sport is really exciting for us and I am sure will be of great interest to everyone attending Sportel,” Dunne said.

The interview is scheduled to take place at 5.15pm on Tuesday October 7.
