EBU and NOS extend Gold Race roles

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the consortium of public-service broadcasters, has renewed its European rights distribution deal for the Gold Race cycling event in the Netherlands for four years, from 2013 to 2016.

As part of the deal, Dutch public-service broadcaster NOS, a member of the EBU, will continue to serve as the event’s host broadcaster for the same four-year period.

The EBU and NOS collaborated on negotiating the deal directly with the organisers of the race.

“This co-operation strengthens the status of the EBU as a major player in the competitive field of summer sports in general, and of cycling in particular,” EBU director of sports and business Stefan Kuerten said.

NOS chief executive Jan de Jong added: “The Gold Race has been the showpiece of the Dutch cycling community for more than 50 years. Since the first edition NOS has been host broadcaster, and we are very happy that can we will show ourselves in this role again over the next few years.”
