Eleven to set Facebook first in Belgium with Ligue 1 clash

International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports will set a first in Belgium today (Wednesday) by live streaming a French Ligue 1 football game live on social media platform Facebook.

The game involved will be tonight’s clash between league leaders Paris Saint-Germain and Caen. Eleven said this will be the first time a match from one of the major European football leagues is broadcast live on Facebook in Belgium.

Eleven Sports has previously live streamed Ivy League American football on Twitter in the US, the Singapore national football team on Facebook in Singapore, and Spanish Liga ACB basketball on Facebook across five different markets.

“Live streaming on social media remains a top priority for Eleven as part of our strategy to deliver content for fans in innovative and highly engaging ways,” Danny Menken, group managing director of Eleven Sports, said.

“Streaming on social media makes our content more accessible and helps both us and the rightsholder reach new and diverse audiences, including those with a low barrier to entry.”
