ESPN maintains ties with CrossFit Games

US sports broadcaster ESPN has signed a multi-year extension to its contract with functional fitness company CrossFit for the exclusive rights to the CrossFit Games.

The new contract will commence with the ESPN channel broadcasting the 2014 CrossFit Games from the StubHub Center in Carson, California, on July 25.

Live television will continue on July 26 on ESPN and conclude with the CrossFit Games Finals on July 27 on the ESPN2 channel. All broadcast windows will also be available via live streaming application WatchESPN.

In addition to the live television coverage, live video-on-demand channel ESPN3 will offer at least 46 hours of coverage beginning with the Masters events on July 22-24.

For viewers outside the US, ESPN International will be delivering the events online by region.

The CrossFit Games are an annual fitness competition where male and female athletes compete to be named the fittest on earth. The constantly varied workouts are designed to test a competitor’s general physical preparedness, including strength, speed, agility and endurance, through a combination of Olympic lifts, gymnastics movements, climbing ropes, powerlifting and running.

ESPN is in its fourth year of broadcasting the CrossFit Games.
