ESPN signs up as Special Olympics broadcaster

International sports broadcaster ESPN has agreed a rights deal for the 2015 Special Olympics, which will take place in Los Angeles, US.

The deal covers all media platforms in the US, Mexico, Spanish-speaking Latin America, the Caribbean, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

ESPN will provide coverage of daily competitions, the closing ceremony and other cultural activities surrounding the event.

ESPN will also produce coverage of the opening ceremony live as well as a nightly highlights programme.

ESPN, the Games’ organising committee and Special Olympics International will collaborate to find regional media partners to broadcast the Games across the world.

In Los Angeles, regional broadcaster KABC-TV will provide coverage of the event.
