ESPN snaps up rights to Gator Bowl

US sports broadcaster ESPN has agreed six-year rights deal for the Gator Bowl annual college American football game.

Gator Bowl Sports, organiser of the game, said the agreement, which commences from the 2015 edition of the event, has been made possible following a new naming rights deal with financial services company TaxSlayer.com.

Under the terms of the deal, the game will be renamed as the TaxSlayer Bowl. Beginning in 2015, the TaxSlayer Bowl will feature a team from the Southeastern Conference that will serve as the anchor team versus an opponent from the Big Ten Conference or the Atlantic Coast Conference, which also includes the University of Notre Dame.

ESPN’s broadcast rights deal, the naming rights agreement and the assignment of teams for the TaxSlayer Bowl will all run across the same six-year term.

The next edition of the TaxSlayer Bowl will be played in Jacksonville, Florida on January 2, 2015.
