ESPN Star snaps up Spanish Liga rights in Singapore

Pan-Asian sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has acquired Spanish Liga football rights in Singapore in a deal covering three seasons, from 2012-13 to 2014-15.

Under the deal, ESS will broadcast up to 250 matches live per year, with some of the games being shown in 3D.

The rights also cover internet and mobile devices.

ESS will replace pay-television broadcaster Starhub as the league’s rights-holder in Singapore.

The Mediapro agency brokered the deal on behalf of the league.

“We are pleased with their [ESS’s] commitment to showcase La Liga across new media platforms in order to extend the profile of this great football league,” Mediapro managing director Gerard Romy said.

Singapore is the 19th territory in Asia where ESS now has rights for the Spanish top flight.
