Esporte Interativo adds Coritiba as Corinthians stay faithful to Globo

Coritiba has become the fourth Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club to formally accept the offer submitted by sports broadcaster Esporte Interativo for the pay-television rights to the top division of Brazilian football, while Corinthians has elected to extend its contract with media company Globo.

The Curitiba-based club has agreed a six-year deal, covering the 2019 to 2024 seasons, with Esporte Interativo, which last month confirmed it had submitted a bid of BRL550m (€126m/$139m) per year to secure the Série A pay-television rights.

Globo currently has the pay-television and free-to-air Série A rights until the end of the 2018 season. The Terra.com.br website said Coritiba would receive 10 times more in revenue from the agreement with Esporte Interativo, in comparison with the current deal with Globo.

Coritiba joins Internacional, Santos and Atlético Paranaense among the Série A clubs who have formally accept the offer submitted by Esporte Interativo, which is said to be targeting at least eight top-tier teams.

Meanwhile, the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper said Corinthians has agreed to extend its free-to-air and pay-television rights deal with Globo until the end of the 2024 season. Corinthians had agreed to extend its association with Globo at the end of last year to cover 2019 and 2020. This deal has reportedly been replaced with a new contract.

Corinthians has joined city rival Sao Paulo in formally committing to Globo on a long-term basis.
