Eurosport serves renewed German cycling interest with UCI Road Worlds deal

International sports broadcaster Eurosport has acquired rights in Germany to this year’s edition of the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) Road World Championships.

The 2016 Road World Championships will be held in Doha, Qatar from October 9-16. Eurosport has secured exclusive television and digital rights and will show the event on its free-to-air Eurosport 1 channel.

Susanne Aigner-Drews, managing director of Discovery Networks Deutschland, said: “The rights agreement for us is also a clear commitment to Olympic sport, because we want fans to see the highlights in Olympic sports throughout the year.

“Especially in cycling we feel in Germany, thanks to a new generation of German cyclists, a generally growing interest, both for our viewers and our advertisers… and with the Tour de France starting in Dusseldorf in 2017 the sport is being brought even more into focus.”
