Eurosport snaps up ‘Perfect Hour’ cycling challenge

Pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport has acquired rights for the International Cycling Union Hour Record attempt by Movistar Team rider Alex Dowsett.

The event, billed as ‘the Perfect Hour’, will be broadcast exclusively on Eurosport in all of its 70 markets across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Eurosport has also acquired worldwide sub-licensing rights for the event.

The challenge will take place on February 27 at 20.00pm CET at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark, the venue for the London 2012 Olympic cycling events.

Dowsett (pictured) will hope to beat the current mark of 51.852km, recently set by Austrian cyclist Matthias Brändle and shown exclusively on Eurosport.

However, Dowsett's participation in the event was thrown into doubt this (Wednesday) morning after his team confirmed that he would undergo an operation after breaking his collarbone.
