F1 extends with Finnish rights partner

Pay-television broadcaster MTV Finland has renewed an agreement for rights to the Formula One motor-racing series.

The new three-year deal will run until 2021.

The agreement also covers the Formula 2 Championship and GP3 Series, which from next year will be known as the Formula 3 Championship.

F1 said the new deal will see MTV provide “broader and deeper” content than ever before. All grand prix weekends will continue to be broadcast on C More, with MTV to also offer viewers a range of new content and an opportunity to tailor content to their preferences.

F1 currently has two Finnish drivers in Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen (pictured). MTV has been broadcasting F1 since the 1980s.

Ian Holmes, director of media rights for F1, said: "They are a long-time partner and by far the most established media company in Finland. They are able to offer comprehensive coverage across different channels and platforms. Their production and presentation is first rate and we look forward to further developing the scope of their content, offering to help continue to attract new fans and satisfy the existing audience who represent some of the most knowledgeable fans we have anywhere in the world."
