F1 head of media rights stays on under new regime

Ian Holmes has been appointed as the new global director of media rights at the Formula One motor-racing world championship.

Holmes will lead a team with core responsibilities for the licensing of audiovisual rights to third parties in a variety of formats, including linear, non-linear, full-length and short-form content. He will also manage additional rights for archive footage, post-produced programming, the newly-rebranded F2 series, GP3, the Porsche Supercup and other subsidiary events.

The appointment means Holmes will continue to sell F1 media rights worldwide, as he has done since 2001 when he was appointed head of media rights. Before joining F1, Holmes worked at the Kirch Sport, Prisma and ISL Marketing agencies.

The promotion for Holmes comes amidst many changes in the commercial operation of F1 since its takeover by Liberty Media.
