Fox Sports to shutter Italian channel

Pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports Italia has announced it will cease operations at the end of the month.

Fox Sports launched in Italy in August 2013, with its main drawing card initially being rights to club football’s English Premier League.

Fox Sports covered the Premier League through to 2016, before the rights returned to pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia, which has been exclusively carrying Fox Sports since 2015.

Of late, Fox Sports’ main rights assets have been Spanish LaLiga and German Bundesliga football, but the broadcaster has said it will cease transmitting on June 30.

In a statement, Fox Sports said: “To all those who have been rooting for us, our most heartfelt thanks goes out for the support and the continuous companionship in this exciting adventure that has come to an end.”
