Fuji TV picks up women’s volleyball rights

Japanese commercial broadcaster Fuji TV has acquired rights for the women’s competition of the Volleyball Champions League, which is operated by the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball, the European volleyball confederation.

The length of Fuji TV’s deal with the Sportsman agency has not been revealed, but the agreement will run until at least the end of the 2012-13 season.

Fuji TV will provide live coverage of at least one game per round from the tournament.

“This agreement represents a tremendous success for us as well as an important step towards broadening the appeal of the Volleyball Champions League in the important Asian market,” Sportsman’s managing director, Oliver Ciesla, said. “Along with Brazil, Poland and Italy, Japan is one of the biggest volleyball countries in the world, in particular in the women’s game, so the sport is consequently of great interest to the media.”

Sportsman has distributed the confederation’s international rights for the Champions League and Volleyball European League, along with other events, since 2008.
