Gazprom Media turns to Chernyshenko

Russian media group Gazprom Media Holding has appointed former Sochi 2014 winter Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee supremo Dmitry Chernyshenko as its new chief executive.

Russian news agency Itar-Tass said Chernyshenko (pictured) will replace Mikhail Lesin – his predecessor moving on due to family commitments – on January 13 under a three-year contract.

Gazprom Media is Russia’s largest media company and its television platforms include NTV, TNT, TV3, 2×2 Pyatnitsa and NTV-Plus.

Chernyshenko’s appointment by Gazprom is the second high-profile post he has taken on in as many months having been named as the new president of pan-European club ice hockey competition the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in December.

He served as president and chief executive of Sochi 2014.
