Gol TV retains rights for Mexican second tier

North American pay-television channel Gol TV has renewed a rights deal for the Mexican Liga de Ascenso, the second tier of football in the country.

The deal with the Baral Group agency will run for two years, from 2012-13 to 2013-14, and includes rights for more than 60 matches per year.

The agreement will also allow Gol TV to acquire further rights to matches in the end-of-season play-offs and finals.

The programming will be available in Spanish and English.

Gol TV officials said that its coverage of the Liga de Ascenso had helped to generate “significant audience increases” and more than double viewing figures in key demographics, according to the Multichannel News website.
