Hungarian club football gets boost in domestic rights income

The Hungarian Football Association has agreed a four-year joint deal with public-service broadcaster Magyar Televizió and Liberty Global-owned pay-television broadcaster Chello Central Europe for rights to Hungarian domestic league and cup football, from 2012-13 to 2015-16.

Under the new deal, which includes increased content, the Hungarian Football Association will receive 3.5 billion Hungarian forint (€11.4 million/$14.1 million) per year. The association received 1.7 billion Hungarian forint in the 2011-12 season, the final year of its previous three-year deal.

The rights cover the first and second division Hungarian national league championships, the Hungarian Cup, the Amateur Cup, the League Cup and the Super Cup tournaments.

Between them, Magyar Televizió and Chello Central Europe will broadcast no less than 60 matches per season in the first year of the new contract, rising to no less than 90 matches in the final two years of the deal.
