Indian Premier League deals agreed in Pakistan and Sri Lanka

Pakistani pay-television broadcaster Geo TV and Sri Lankan free-to-air broadcaster the Carlton Sports Network have acquired rights for cricket’s Indian Premier League in one-year deals for the 2012 season.

The deals were brokered by the Sporty Solutionz agency. Sporty Solutionz had earlier sublicensed the rights in the two territories from Sony, the broadcast production and manufacturing company. Sony has the IPL rights for the Indian sub-continent in a nine-year deal with the World Sport Group agency, from 2009 to 2017.

The 2012 IPL season begins today, as the Chennai Super Kings play host to the Mumbai Indians. The season runs until May 27.
