ITT launched for rights to new European ice hockey competition

The International Ice Hockey Federation has issued an invitation-to-tender for the commercial rights to a new European club competition, which aims to launch in the autumn of 2014.

The ITT encompasses the complete commercial rights to the new event, which is currently operating under the working name of the European Club Competition.

Requests from bidders to obtain the ITT or for clarification and/or further information relating to the ITT must be marked for the attention of Timo Everi and/or Szymon Szemberg and received via email at office@iihf.com. These requests must be entered in the English language and be received during the period spanning May 29 to June 27.

Each bid must be signed for, and on behalf of, the bidder by two authorised signatories. Bids must be submitted to the ‘Copenhagen Working Group’ via registered mail, and delivered to the IIHF headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

Europe’s leading ice hockey clubs, their leagues and the IIHF have formed a joint venture with the objective of launching the ECC. The stakeholders are now in the process of forming a shareholder company, where the clubs will be the majority shareholders.

Everi, the chairman of Finnish league club IFK Helsinki, said: “This has been a unique process of cooperation in the history of European hockey. We have a come a long way, there is still lot of work to be done, but we have reached a stage where we are confident issuing this invitation to tender.”
