K League becomes latest rights-holder to turn to WSC Sports

South Korean football’s K League is partnering with Israel-based artificial intelligence video production and distribution platform WSC Sports.

The new agreement with WSC Sports will allow the K League to automatically create short-form videos in real-time that are easily shared across all digital platforms.

The technology will be rolled out across K League 1 and K League 2 competitions, the top two tiers of Korean football, analysing audio, video and data during live sports and creating personalised video content for publication.

The link up is the first time a Korean sports organisation has partnered with WSC Sports, which already works with the National Basketball Association, the German Bundesliga, Major League Soccer, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and Japanese J League football.

More recently, WSC Sports agreed a automated video production and distribution tie-up with the Belarus Football Federation (ABFF) as the league in the eastern European continues despite the Covid-19 shutdown.

WSC Sports also entered the South American market in February, after agreeing a deal with Liga Nacional de Basquete, the operating body of the top division of Brazilian club basketball.

In August, WSC Sports raised $23m (€20.8m) in Series C funding, while in December, tech giant Amazon enlisted WSC Sports to produce an interactive replay function in its coverage of the English Premier League.

Earlier this week the K League agreed media-rights deals in 10 overseas markets, with potentially more to come, as it prepares to become one of the few football leagues in the world to resume play next month.
