KPL names Bamba TV as new broadcast partner

Kenyan free-to-air television platform Bamba TV has agreed a deal to become the official broadcast partner of the Kenyan Premier League, the country’s top division of club football.

According to Goal.com, the agreement will run for six months and is worth approximately Sh36.7m (€311,700/$353,600).

Bamba TV will broadcast live coverage of two matches on every weekend of the season.

Patrick Quarcoo, chief executive of media company Radio Africa Group, which owns Bamba TV, said that KPL coverage could also feature on mobile devices.

Quarcoo said: “KPL represents the cream of Kenyan soccer and for the first time, we are making it free to Kenyans. We are even hoping to bring it to your mobile phones with support of our partners.”

SuperSport, the pay-television broadcaster that operates in sub-Saharan Africa, had previously shown coverage of the KPL, but backed away from the deal last April after a disagreement with league managers.
