Carlos Maluf has been announced as the new chief executive of sports broadcaster ESPN Brasil.
The appointment was made by the broadcaster’s parent company Disney. Maluf will take over from German Hartenstein, who led ESPN Brasil until April.
Maluf has worked at ESPN Brasil since February 2000, most recently as programming and acquisitions director. In his new role, he will lead the broadcaster’s strategy across various teams including acquisitions, programming and content production, as well as sales, advertising and digital.
Maluf will report to Guillermo Tabanera, Disney’s general manager of media networks in Latin America. He will also report to Disney’s new general manager in Brazil once a replacement has been found for Michel Piestun, who left last month.
As programming and acquisitions director at ESPN Brasil, Maluf helped broker deals for properties such as the Olympic Games, Fifa World Cup, Uefa European Championships, NBA and NFL.
ESPN also holds rights to the English Premier League until 2021-22 and recently sublicensed two games per matchweek to DAZN, the subscription OTT platform.
