Mediaset to switch Liga coverage from Cuatro to Energy

Spanish commercial broadcaster Mediaset will switch live coverage of the country’s top-tier football Liga from its Cuatro channel to digital-terrestrial channel Energy.

Mediaset is hoping that the change, which will be implemented on November 22, will help to “revive” audience figures for Energy, a spokesperson told the Vertele.com news website.

Mediaset has rights for one Liga match per week on Saturday evenings, but in the competitive primetime slot, Cuatro has been attracting an audience share of only about five per cent for its coverage.

The Formula TV news website said that Mediaset opted to switch the coverage to Energy after the Liga refused to reschedule the Saturday evening kick-off slot to Saturday afternoons or Monday evenings. Last year, Mediaset showed games on Mondays.
