Italian pay-television broadcaster Mediaset Premium is to launch the country’s first Ultra HD sports channel for the 2015-16 final of club football competition the Uefa Champions League, which is being hosted in Milan.
Mediaset Premium Sport 4K will commence operations with the game between Spanish city rivals Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid on May 28 at the San Siro, home of Serie A teams AC Milan and Inter Milan.
The channel will be made available through the Mediaset 1 digital terrestrial television multiplex, but viewers will need to be subscribers to Mediaset Premium’s Champions League package and have secured an upgrade for their set-top boxes.
It is unclear whether the platform will remain in place for further 4K sports coverage after the Champions League final.
